The leader must provide each team member with three critical things, right from the start:

Belonging – Control – Shared Understanding

1. A sense of Belonging – We all have a core social need to feel like we belong, are included and are accepted for whom we are and what we have to offer.
2. A sense of Control – We want to have some control over what goes on in the team so that we feel we can contribute.
3. A Shared Understanding – We want to know that we all understand the goals, roles and expectations, so we can work together from the start.
